/Job Description:
Design beautiful, enlightening and engaging features, departments and covers for Maui Nō Ka 'Oi Magazine, Nebraska Life Magazine, Colorado Life Magazine, Utah Life Magazine and sister publications.
Provide art direction to staff and contract photographers.
Commission illustrations.
Coordinate with photo and text editors.
Manage design and production budget.
Manage production schedule.
Maintain brand and publication design guidelines.
Shape the creative vision for our company and magazine brands.
Job Requirements:
2+ years of magazine design experience, including as junior designer, senior designer, assistant art director or art director.
Aesthetic eye for beauty that plays photography and engages the reader.
Consummate student of art, design, typography, photography, media and magazines.
Bachelor or Master's degree in art, design or similar field of study.
Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and InCopy.
Color theory, typography, and deep knowledge of magazine design styles.
Layout storyboarding and draft design conceptualizations.
Experience leading a team, managing budgets, and producing magazines in efficient production workflows.
Collaborative team player.
