What you’ll do:

  • Work with editors at Vulture to select images for posts across the site on tight deadlines

  • Serve as lead photo editor of our biweekly print magazine’s culture section and contribute to the feature well, working closely with editors to conceptualize and execute photography solutions

  • Source images for design team and illustrators when needed, as well as occasional after hours events such as award shows, breaking news or other large culture events that will require photo support

  • Complete in-depth photo research for longer term projects focused on a single blog and finding existing bodies of work pertaining to the assignment

  • Optimize images technically and visually for publication online and in print: color correction and siloing

  • Coordinate retouching needs, delivery of images, and deadlines with artists

  • Work collaboratively with New York Media teams on special projects

  • Maintain image metadata to ensure accurate credit and caption information are preserved

Job Requirements:
What you’ll bring:

  • At least 5 years of experience in photo editing, preferably in the media/publishing space

Position Summary: Fordham University’s Multimedia Designer creates engaging designs for web, print, and digital/interactive media in support of the University’s strategic enrollment, retention, and fundraising goals. Reporting to the Director of Creative Services, the Multimedia Designer will closely collaborate with a talented in-house creative team who specializes in strategic problem solving and storytelling across media platforms.

Essential Functions
Collaborates with cross-functional team members, including writer-editors, marketing directors, and project leads.

Web Design and Digital Communications

  • Takes a key role in the design and layout of the Fordham website.

  • Creates Photoshop Design File (PSDs) for visual layout of web pages.

  • Packages design files and communicates to the website developer.

  • Creates landing pages and other web pages in the University’s content management system.

  • Creates supporting design elements—website including graphics, infographics, and animations—and photo selection for website, emails, and social media.

  • Works within existing design structures / identity system.

  • Supports the University’s mandate to create ADA compliant digital communications.

Print Materials

  • Proposes and creates original design solutions for event and marketing collateral, including invitations, signage, banners, brochures, advertisements, and handbooks.

  • Works on variable content communications, building out multiple versions for print and digital.

  • Develops innovative design concepts for annual giving stewardship and solicitations, including, but not limited to, annual incentives, direct mail pieces, and more.

  • Works within existing design structures / identity systems.

Production

  • Facilitates the production process from beginning to end, from raw creation to image preparation and enhancement to final printed output.

  • Seeks and analyzes competitive bids from vendors.

  • Monitors and trouble shoots projects in the final stages, prepares digital files for print, and reviews proofs.

  • Communicates and tracks progress in the team’s project management system.

  • Oversees digital asset management system and enforcement of metadata standards and uniform uploading processes including photo, video and graphics.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • 3+ years professional experience in marketing design at an agency or in house.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Word, Keynote and Powerpoint, Filemaker Pro and Web authoring software.

  • Experience with designing for mobile devices and ability to work within an open creative environment.

  • Strong knowledge of user-centered design and usability principles, issues and techniques.

  • Advanced and demonstrated knowledge of digital design best practices, including, but not limited to ADA compliant design requirements, and social media ad and post specifications.

  • UU/UX experience for desktop and mobile

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of accuracy even under pressure.

  • Flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Skilled and experienced in working with both pre-press (printing) specifications and digital design requirements.

  • Ability to change priorities as project scope changes and perform multiple, concurrent tasks.
