Job Description: The Washington Post’s Emerging News Products team has an immediate opening for a designer who can create bold experiences for our readers. This role will focus on designing for our national tablet and phone app: “Washington Post Select.”

Job Requirements: We are looking for a top-notch visual journalist with experience in a fast-paced news environment. Familiarity with web production and managing work across platforms is beneficial, but not required. We are looking for a person who can think differently about how we deliver journalism for new, national audiences. Strong typography and conceptual illustration skills are keys to this position. Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator is expected. Experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript and Adobe After Effects is a plus.

It is also essential that this person be a team player who is excited about the future of mobile design. It also will help to have a spirit of adventure, as we’ll be experimenting with new approaches on emerging platforms. This position will require working nights and weekends.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom and is not eligible for remote work.

Digital Art/Photo Summer Intern, RD.com

Job Description: RD.com (Reader's Digest magazine's website) is looking for a Digital Art/Photo Intern to conduct stock photography research for daily web posts and slideshows. Working out of our Westchester office, this person has a background in photo or design and is able to work under tight deadlines. They will work directly under the Digital Designer and also working closely with the design and edit teams to meet daily posting needs for web slideshows and posts. We are a general interest website, you'd be working on a variety of subjects, health, beauty, science, fun facts, humor, inspirational real stories and even some pop culture.

Job Requirements: Current students or recent graduates should apply. Having a background that includes light photo retouching such as silhouetting and extending images is preferred. You must be able to work in a very fast-paced environment under tight deadlines and on several things at once. You also need to be able to work independently and in close collaboration with our group, good communication skills are a must. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and some experience with InDesign helpful. WordPress and photo research experience are preferred.

Job Description: HOUSE BEAUTIFUL seeks a curious and creative Senior Designer. You are an experienced designer who’s eager to take the lead on our digital platforms (website and social media, etc), as well as design layouts for our magazine. We are one team—print and digital—everyone contributing to the brand as a whole. 

The Senior Designer works alongside editors, photo editors, and digital/social media producers, to create inventive design solutions. You are expected to develop a strong understanding of our digital and print platforms, including their editorial goals and engagement objectives. This is a digital-first position with some print responsibilities.

This position reports to the Design Director and is located in New York City.

Duties 
• Under direction from the Design Director, take the lead on all digital design including an upcoming redesign of HouseBeautiful.com
• As lead designer, work with the Design Director and editorial team to develop top-level visual solutions
• Create digital designs, animations, icons, logos, newsletters and layouts
• Commission original artwork, including illustrations, infographics, icons, and animations 
• Art direct and design FOB and feature layouts

Job Requirements:
• A strong portfolio of work designing across a range of platforms: digital, print, and social.
• Excellent typography and layout skills. 
• 5+ years combined experience working in a digital and print editorial setting is preferred
• Demonstrated experience commissioning original artwork 
• Excellent communication skills 
• Thorough understanding of digital production processes and capabilities.
• Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator 
• Experience using Sketch, HTML, and CSS are a plus 
• Illustration skills are a plus
