Job summary: Adweek, the marketing industry's leading publication, is seeking a highly motivated and organized web artist to work at the company’s growing newsroom in New York.

The web artist will join a Folio award-winning Visual Newsroom, which combines a team of highly talented video producers and web artists. The web artist will assist in the daily production of visual content on Adweek.com. This entails working closely with the rest of the Visual Newsroom and story editors to ensure the site is visually engaging.

The web artist helps design online layouts for stories from Adweek magazine and other special online-only features. The web artist also assists Adweek’s video team and photo editor on in-house shoots.

Knowledge of graphic design, photography, digital workflow and basic web production is essential—as is understanding the relationship between imagery and social media.

Adweek’s coverage reaches an engaged audience of more than 6 million professionals who are interested in advertising, branding, tech, TV, media and creativity.

Job Requirements:

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Download, edit, and resize images for daily news stories

  • Production of original or re-purposed graphics and creative content for the web

  • Creation of photo illustrations

  • Collaborate with digital, print creative and editorial staff to implement the above

Requirements:

  • Photoshop CS

  • Optimization of web graphics

  • Basic color correction

  • Understand layers and non-destructive editing

  • Intermediate retouching skills (specifically cloning and healing)

  • Basic knowledge of actions and batching

  • Basic gif editing/gif creation

  • Understand differences between print and Web resolution

  • Understand basic coding and naming conventions

  • Can edit very basic HTML

Knowledge of the following required:

  • Adobe Illustrator, After Effects

  • Wordpress or similar CMS backend

  • Giphy's Gif Maker

Other Skills:

  • Passion for visual storytelling

  • Fluent in social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and Mac OS

  • Superb visual, verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to meet short deadlines

  • Must be a team player 

  • Comfortable interpreting direction and taking initiative

Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, Photography or relevant visual communication course of study preferred 

  • One to two years relevant industry experience
