Senior Editorial Designer, Metaleap Creative

Job Description: Metaleap Creative’s publication design team (based in Atlanta, GA) is seeking a senior designer with 5+ years of experience who is efficient, disciplined, outgoing and extremely collaborative. Ideal candidates will have a passion for magazines and knowledge of current editorial design trends. They should be conceptual thinkers with a sophisticated design sense and an eye for detail. The successful candidate will also demonstrate proactive problem-solving and management of projects from concept to completion.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • CONCEPTING — Research and develop concepts for multiple titles, many of which require abstract or philosophical thinking

  • ART DIRECTION—Commission illustration and direct photoshoots

  • DESIGN — Design both front-of-book and feature pages for print, including special issues and feature package; adapt art and design for digital and social platforms while maintaining a consistent look and feel

  • COMMUNICATION — Report to the associate creative director, providing regular updates on all projects as requested and handling other duties as may be necessary

  • MENTORING — Teach and encourage junior members of the team

Job Requirements:

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • BFA OR BA DEGREE—A Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in graphic design, including coursework in both typography and page layout

  • FLEXIBILITY — Understand clients’ needs and adapt when necessary while maintaining our high standard of art direction and design

  • ORGANIZATION — Create and maintain clean files throughout the entire production cycle, while keeping track of art budgets and invoices

  • HOLISTIC-THINKING — The ability to develop assets across various platforms that both complement the print product and help to expand the client’s reach

  • SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE — InDesign proficiency is required, including extensive knowledge of keyboard shortcuts, and a solid grasp of Photoshop and Illustrator

  • PRODUCTION SKILLS—Working knowledge of the print production process

  • SELF-MOTIVATION AND TEAM-ORIENTATION—Ability to work well with the rest of Metaleap’s design team and function well at getting tasks done independently, an eagerness to learn and willingness to grow and take creative direction is imperative

  • HUMILITY — An eagerness to learn from the experience and expertise of others

  • PERSONALITY — A temperament that appreciates Metaleap’s warm and collaborative culture, a strong work ethic and good sense of humor, and the ability to push clients and projects toward fresh innovative solutions while respecting and growing internal and external relationships
