Title: Junior Designer
Reports to: Art Director

San Diego Magazine is looking for a Junior Designer to help brainstorm, design and execute innovative multi-platform content. The magazine’s content takes many forms—reported articles, photo essays, videos, social media, events and brand partnerships. Job Duties:

  • Create fresh, design forward social media (Instagram) stories for the San Diego Magazine brand, as well as for our paid partnerships and custom clients.

  • Assist creative team design and execute branded newsletters implementing latest platforms and trends in digital marketing/email marketing.

  • Translate newsletter content to web-based landing pages.

  • Assist print design team on editorial layouts, advertorials, and paid profiles for the magazine using templates & fresh creative.

  • Create ads on behalf of advertisers.

  • Check ads for print fidelity.

  • Help implement branding on events and marketing into extended print and digital assets.

  • Other duties as assigned.

OUR COMPANY: San Diego Magazine has been in the market since 1948 and has grown from a single monthly lifestyle publication into an expansive multi-media company. Our product portfolio now includes 10 titles, multiple websites, e-newsletters, events, social media, video production, custom media and podcasting.

Job Requirements:

Skills Needed:

  • Must be a time management expert, respond to multiple rounds of review, and meet deadlines every time.

  • Able to take direction from the Art Director and execute on a range of projects.

  • Learn the internal system and maintain digital files on the company server, following naming convention and organization.

  • Stay up to date, and excited about the newest trends in digital marketing and digital design.

  • Animation experience, or interest in learning animation is a plus.

  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp, WordPress, Canva, and Substack.

  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS preferred

  • Associates degree in Graphic Design required, 4-year degree in Graphic Design preferred.
