Job Description: Experienced regional magazine designer? Come join the team at Flagship Publishing as Art Director and create some of America's most beloved regional magazines – Nebraska Life, Colorado Life, Utah Life, Maui Nō Ka 'Oi Magazine. Location for this job is option of three locations: Fort Collins, Colorado; Wailuku, Hawaii (Maui); or remote from your home office. As Art Director at Flagship Publishing you will:

  • Shape the creative vision for our company and magazine brands.

  • Produce four bimonthly titles, four calendars, annuals and book products.

  • Lead and mentor a team of staff and contract designers.

  • Provide art direction to staff and contract photographers.

  • Execute smart designs and efficient workflows.

  • Design covers, features and departments.

  • Design brand and marketing collateral.

  • Commission illustrations.

  • Manage design and production budget.

  • Manage production schedule.

  • Lead publication redesigns.

  • Create brand and publication design guidelines.

Job Requirements: These are the skills and attributes you will need to do this job well:

  • Aesthetic eye for beauty that plays photography and engages the reader.

  • Consummate student of art, design, typography, photography, media and magazines.

  • Curiosity about the world, including culture, art, history, food and travel.

  • 8+ years of magazine design experience, including as art director, senior designer or assistant art director.

  • Bachelor or master's degree in art, design or similar field of study.

  • Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and InCopy.

  • Color theory, typography, and deep knowledge of magazine design styles.

  • Layout storyboarding and draft design conceptualizations.

  • Experience leading a team, managing budgets, and producing magazines in efficient production workflows.

  • Collaborative team player.

  • Honest, hardworking and a cheerful attitude.
