Graphic Designer / Web Developer, The Pegasus Review

Design a Medical Literary Journal and Change American Medicine

Job Description: The Pegasus Review is a new medical literary journal out of Stanford University. We plan to launch this summer, first online and then in print.

As we plan our launch, we are seeking a graphic designer and web developer to help build our platform from the ground up. Our publication’s visual aesthetic should reflect its editorial voice. As such, our ideal designer is someone who shares our passion for crafting beautiful stories about medical culture, medical training, and the experience of illness and healing. That said, we prize professionalism and skill above all else, and welcome any applicant who can help us translate our vision to print and the web.

The compensation for this job is a $6000 for the initial platform build, and then $1500/year for ongoing consultation services.

Job Requirements:

THE JOB ENTAILS:

  • Helping to shape our visual aesthetic. (We have strong opinions, and we welcome a designer who does too.)
  • Building a beautiful online literary publication, with a gripping front page, fluid story layouts, thoughtful lead pages for individual sections (e.g., fiction, poetry, opinion, etc), and simple tools for navigating between pages
  • Seamlessly integrating this web publication with a print edition
  • Integrating our literary art with visual art (curated by our art director)
  • Consulting on promotional material (e.g., flyers, splashpages)
  • Teaching our staff to manage the site’s content, so that we can upload new content for subsequent editions
  • Performing limited troubleshooting during these bi-annual/quarterly uploads
  • Talking us through back-end design issues like adware interoperability and SEO friendliness.
