Job Description: 

ABOUT THE JUNIOR DESIGNER ROLE AND OUR TEAM
We are looking for a talented, full-time Junior Designer in The Knot Magazine’s editorial department. This position is a part of a creative, fast-paced, deadline-oriented three-person team. This individual will have a strong design aesthetic with a modern, thoughtful and fresh approach to design solutions. The Junior Designer should have excellent production skills and follow industry best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conceive and Execute designs/layouts for FOB and feature sections of both The Knot National and Regional magazines
  • Assist Design Director, Photo Director and Edit team on story development and visual concepts
  • Manage page production for the magazine including assigning, traffic pages, pre-press, pagination and shipping
  • Ensure layouts meet The Knot’s design and print standards throughout each issue cycle
  • Release art and page markups for color correction and retouching
  • Manage and update Art Departments daily work-flow
  • Maintain positive work environment with high creative standards
  • Research and commission illustrations as needed
  • Contribute to and participate in future redesign
     

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Publication Design or other related field required
  • 1-2 years of experience in an editorial design setting
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Solid understanding of Mac-based K4 system and workflow experience
  • Knowledge of editorial print design, visual hierarchy, the creative process
  • Exceptional design and typography skills
  • Excellent production skills with attention to detail
  • Organized with ability to multi-task numerous layouts and responsibilities under tight deadlines
  • Passionate about design, photography, typography, fashion, style and all things weddings!
  • Able to articulate and present ideas
  • Works well independently and as part of a group, possesses a self-starter attitude and a strong work ethic
