OVERVIEW: Clemson University Marketing and Communications is seeking an innovative and motivated Art Director to join our Design Services team. In this role, you'll work closely with the Executive Creative Director and other staff designers to bring our brand story to life in Clemson World, the University’s flagship publication and other priority areas supporting the universities strategic goals.

ABOUT YOU: You're an imaginative problem solver with an eye for detail and a knack for thinking outside the box. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as lead designer for Clemson World for print, digital, social media, web and other media applications as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with the design, editorial, communications, video, web and photography teams to support the Clemson brand.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Graphic Communications, or related major field of study.

  • At least 4 years of experience in a design, creative, or marketing role.

  • Expertise in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Figma.

  • Understanding of digital and print production processes, limitations, and specifications.

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards in the digital space.

  • Experience using project management systems and tools in a creative environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with animation and motion graphics, Procreate, illustration, email marketing, and 3D rendering is a plus.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Working with the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), you will conceive, prototype and develop high-quality data visualization for data-rich research reports, articles and social media.

In this role, you will use your creativity and collaboration skills to partner with designers, editors and researchers around the world in developing content that will be published across multiple digital channels and experiences including web, social and animation/video. You will help create content for digital platforms including web (McKinsey.com), social media, and the McKinsey Insights app.

You will work closely with editors to create content that matters to our audience, then taking ownership of and wrangling it into clear, concise stories and visualizations. You are passionate about designing and creating engaging, informative and accurate code-based data visualizations for data-driven stories, while also identifying opportunities to elevate that content by recommending new data visualization methods, tools, and concepts. You have storytelling experience for editorial content — ideally having worked with leading publishers and/or news organizations — and can showcase a portfolio of data visualization experiences built with font-end frameworks such as React and D3. You will collaborate with UX/UI designers, product managers and producers to create interactive experiences that resonate with and engage our audience. You will advance our group's capability to deliver innovative solutions that are pragmatic, scalable, impactful and memorable. You will be responsible for upholding McKinsey's quality standards, ensuring UX and code are compliant with firm engineering guidelines and standards, and with our design system. Balancing multiple projects and ensuring that short- and long-term deadlines are met is our standard way of working.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, visual design or equivalent; journalism background preferred

  • 5+ years of industry experience ideally having worked with leading digital content developers and/or publishers, including significant data visualization development work

  • Experience creating immersive data-driven stories that balance user needs, business objectives and technological constraints

  • Previous story-telling experience for editorial content

  • Expertise in cross-browser responsive development across all modern platforms (PC, Mac, iPhone, Android and tablets)
