Job Description:
WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH: You will be based in our New York, Boston, Washington DC, or Atlanta office as part of our global publishing and brand design team. This team creates high impact and high value content and digital experiences. Reporting to the head of publishing design and the lead brand designer, you will collaborate with McKinsey’s editorial and brand communications teams to create visual content and user experiences that engage our audience across digital and print channels. You will collaborate closely with other designers and external vendors. You will also partner with stakeholders across our organization, advising on best-practice which often involves advocating for/providing a fact-base to justify visual recommendations.

WHAT YOU'LL DO: You will develop visuals that will capture readers' attention and deepen their engagement, giving our content high visual impact and making it easy for the readers to digest. In this role, you will create compelling visual communications that build on McKinsey’s premium brand. You will maintain our visual identity to always be on-brand and visually distinctive. You will anticipate trends and set and maintain our overall visual style as well as articulate reasons for selecting art and/or artists. You will manage multiple projects simultaneously in an agile development environment. This means working on projects in close collaboration with other team members and managing production and delivery of project deliverables that you commit to. You lead discussion of ideas for imagery with the editor and other colleagues and sketch ideas to solidify a shared understanding when planning visuals. You will be tapped into a valuable network of vendors and artists and become a resource when it comes to sourcing new talent for projects. You will execute proper image organization and naming conventions as well as maintain good file hygiene across all projects. You will also manage the art budget for purchasing visuals.

Job Requirements:
• Bachelor of arts in photography, design or similar degree
• 8-10 years of experience; ideally 5 years in an editorial or agency setting
• Experience commissioning and licensing art from photographers (and illustrators is a plus) from a diverse network of artists and photographers across many visual genres
• Passion for publishing imagery and have deep experience with photo research and editing
• Collaborative attitude with interest and aptitude for working across tenures and role types, countries and cultures; ability to successfully navigate and thrive in a complex organization
• Outstanding visual thinker; ability to quickly grasp a complex brief and meet it with conceptual, creative and on-brand ideas
• Proficient in the essentials of photo retouching with advanced knowledge of Adobe imaging software (e.g. Photoshop, Bridge)
• Ability to quickly communicate via sketches, annotated visuals and low-fidelity designs
• Outstanding drive and process management skills with a hands-on, action-oriented style
• Skilled at relationship building and influencing; able to effectively balance diplomacy with tenacity when working to gain alignment on goals
• Excellent problem solving and ability to implement sound judgement knowing when to make independent decisions and when to collaborate
• Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to work across time zones as needed
