The Art of Rolling Stone is a unique one-day conference devoted to the design, typography, and photography of Rolling Stone.
Friday, May 25, 9:00 am to 6:30 pm
SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street, New York City
A program of fifteen speakers that played crucial roles in Rolling Stone’s history will tell stories, show memorable covers and layouts, and discuss how they apply their knowledge to contemporary design and typography.
The conference will be host to five Rolling Stone art directors, including John Williams, the first art director of the publication, who launched the magazine’s classic typography in 1967, and Joe Hutchinson, the current art director, who is charged with starting the magazine’s next 50 years.
Other presenters include Rolling Stone’s three influential photo editors, Karen Mullarkey, Laurie Kratochvil, and Jodi Peckman in addition to noted RS alumni like Chris Austopchuk, Lloyd Ziff, and Andy Cowles.
