Print Production Specialist, IEEE

We’re currently in need of a Print Production Specialist to layout magazine pages and perform other production chores for the print and online editions of IEEE Spectrum. In this role, the incumbent will work closely with the staff to develop solutions from concept to completion utilizing current graphic design technology. Will also work closely with Advertising Production team in creating recruitment advertising.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Page layout and design of IEEE Spectrum templated department stories including Back Story, Masthead-Contributors, Big Picture, and Past Forward.

  • Identify and address potential production and technical issues.

  • Review digital color proofs and provide approval and/or feedback to Senior Art Director and printer.

  • Prepare content for both the Spectrum and Institute Online in XML format.

  • Prepare and supply Spectrum Magazine for Xplore and maintain a Spectrum PDF and Institute archive.

  • Prepare and supply both Spectrum and The Institute for the full Qiosk/Qmags online subscription service.

  • Attend art meetings for The Institute typically at the NYC office.

  • Prepare and upload all pages to printer’s portal. Serve as Spectrum’s liaison to printer and work with printer on correcting prepress issues.

  • Create, manage, and distribute pdf page proofs to staff for review.

Job Requirements:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in graphic design, publishing or related field.

  • 4 – 7 years’ experience in publication production processes.

  • 4 – 7 years’ experience with color correction, retouching, silhouetting and preparing images for online and mobile applications.

  • 4 – 7 years’ experience with Adobe Creative Suite.

  • 2 – 4 years’ experience in Microsoft Word, Google Docs and Slack.

  • Working knowledge of RGB to CMYK print process and the transition between digital to print color.

  • Demonstrated understanding of typography and grid-based design work.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to collaborate and maintain effective relationships.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while working on multiple projects.
